Atlan keeps skills close to their source and audience. You do not need to build a workspace hierarchy before installing the desktop app.

Global skills

Skills installed globally for Claude Code or Codex land in your personal workspace. This includes skills from third-party Claude Code plugins. Atlan keeps the skill’s source and imports its supported package files, not only SKILL.md.

Shared skills

Put a skill in a shared workspace when a team needs to find, review, or maintain the same registry copy. A shared workspace can contain skills from several sources when they serve the same team. For example, a Platform workspace might contain both a deployment skill and an incident-review skill. The shared workspace groups them by who maintains them, while each skill retains its source.

Keep the structure small

Use one workspace when the same people own and use the skills. Add a child workspace only when a team needs a different owner, membership list, or access boundary. Workspace creation and hierarchy changes belong in Administration. See Manage workspaces for those procedures.
